Oil Painting series 2014/2015
Somerville's formative years were tormented by constant earthquakes giving her a very physical awareness of the earth. This translated in her practise in a surrealist fluidity of automatism used as a means of catharsis by creating escapism into fantastic worlds of colourful subterranean scenes she imagined existing on the tectonic plates breaking her reality apart.
